Starting with a graphic charter including: a logo, the main colors and the typography to be used. And a discussion with Ethan about his needs, his business, his particular expectations of the site and the hosting and plugins already in place for the website. I produced an initial mock-up on Figma (see screenshot), then we both exchanged ideas to refine and improve the design.
I then moved straight on to implementing this first version of the design with Generatepress and Generateblocks Pro, and produced the templates needed for WordPress and the website to function optimally (homepage, archive template for taxonomies and blog, single post template for articles). Everything was set up with Generatepress and Generateblocks without any additional code, allowing Ethan to modify all parts of his website directly with the graphical interface, including Gutenberg (see “Elements” screenshot).
After this initial implementation, Ethan found the site a little too “bloggy”, so I modified the design directly with Gutenberg to achieve something more compact with a greater emphasis on content, as the website is educational and informative. We worked efficiently with Ethan, totally asynchronously as he’s in the US and I’m in France. A single face-to-face Google meet enabled us to confirm our points of view and validate the final modifications. The whole project went perfectly, and the result is an ultra-light “content-first” site that corresponds well to the initial graphic charter and that Ethan can modify entirely himself. A turnkey, high-performance, SEO-optimized editorial site.
