WordPress developer in Plobannalec-Lesconil: two villages, one site

The commune is now mainly residential. Its economy moved towards tourism and services after trawler fishing ended in Lesconil, in the early 2000s. The port received the heritage port label in 2018, which says enough about what it has become: a place to see and to visit, as much as a place of work.

A site built for this territory therefore has to hold two registers. On the Lesconil side, it speaks to visitors staying nearby, looking for a rental, a table, an activity, a beach, and reading all of it from a phone. On the Plobannalec side, it speaks to local, lasting clients, looking for a tradesperson, a nearby service, a shop, and who come back.

In practice, I put in place:

• one clear page per activity, with opening hours, contact details and how to get in touch
• a careful mobile display, because most tourism visits happen on a phone
• the trust signals brought forward: labels, years in business, reviews, past work
• accurate practical information, corrected in minutes without a provider

The two demonyms of the commune say this duality well: you are Plobannalécois or Lesconilois, rarely both. A page that mixed the two addresses would be unreadable for both audiences. The area I cover details the communes served: the studio works across the whole Pays Bigouden, from Loctudy to Penmarc’h, through Pont-l’Abbé and Le Guilvinec. Loctudy and Pont-l’Abbé describe the same organisation in their own contexts.

Many of the commune’s sites already exist, some built several years ago and never updated since. Taking one over therefore starts with a full review: what holds, what has to go, and what is missing.

For maintenance, that review happens on the live site: plugins, performance, security. A technical upgrade follows, with vulnerabilities fixed and whatever is no longer used cleared out. The data is then migrated to a managed hosting plan, and the site runs on a clean base again.

If the conclusion is different, it is said just as clearly. When the theme is too damaged, or the plugins are no longer maintained, starting from a clean base costs less than repairing. Both options are priced before any decision.

The plan starts at €39 excl. VAT per month, for one site, with a minimum commitment of six months.

What it includes: eco-friendly hosting with Hosterra, 3 GB of storage and a domain name up to €15 per year; daily WordPress, theme and plugin updates, checked before they are applied; daily backups kept for up to 50 days; continuous monitoring of uptime and errors; a monthly maintenance report; fifteen minutes of support per month, excluding site editing.

What it does not include is written down too. Site editing is billed at the hourly rate of €60 excl. VAT: fixing text, adding products, replacing photographs. New features are quoted separately. And when a plugin is no longer maintained by its author, I do not take it on.

Upkeep goes beyond updates. ZenPress, the slimming plugin I develop and publish on the official WordPress repository, disables the features the site does not use, removes code from useless plugins and configures cache plugins. A lighter site loads faster, consumes less, and offers less surface to attack. Each of the two plugins is installed by dozens of users, outside the studio’s own sites.

On a territory where the economy has moved towards tourism, an online shop answers one precise case: extending the season. A holiday let taking a deposit online, a shop selling a side product after the visitor has gone, a tradesperson offering a gift voucher. Sales no longer stop in August.

The shop offer starts at €69 excl. VAT per month, with a 24-month commitment, no setup fee and no commission on sales. Card payment is set up through Stripe on your own account, and legal compliance is included: legal notice, privacy policy, terms of sale, delivery and returns. These are generic templates, to be read through and adapted to your business, under your own responsibility.

Not everything needs a shop, and it is better to say so. A tradesperson who takes orders by phone, a holiday let that works through a platform, a shop with no distance selling: in those cases, a brochure site kept up to date is enough, and costs less.

I am based in Loctudy, a few minutes from Plobannalec-Lesconil. Nothing to visit, nothing to do on site: meetings happen by phone or by video call, and the work is done remotely.

The objection comes up often, and it is a fair one: what is the point of a provider a few kilometres away if they never come? The answer has two parts. On a website, exchanges are about pages, text and settings, which show just as well on a screen as around a table. And above all, there is no intermediary to explain the same problem to twice: the person who answers the phone is the one who looks after the site.

What does not happen remotely is stated too: nobody will come and fix a breakdown on site. Backups, monitoring and remote access are there for that, and they are part of the plan.

Delivering without checking leaves the work half done. The studio’s services rest on two measurable references: the certification Opquast niveau expert, with a score of 958 out of 1000 obtained in 2024, covering site quality and accessibility, and the ISTQB software tester certification obtained in 2022.

So the site is tested before it goes live: forms, mobile display, speed, link consistency, readability. I work with WordPress, WooCommerce, GeneratePress and Gutenberg, and publish my own open source plugins, Updatronix for updates and ZenPress for making the site lighter. Projects now online are shown on the studio’s own site.
