Plomeur is neither a port nor a market town. It sits between Pont-l’Abbé and Penmarc’h, rural and coastal at once, and that is what makes its economy particular. Businesses here work for residents, and some of them also receive passing trade during the season.
Crossing the sources says the same thing. Plomeur had around 3,900 residents at the last census. The encyclopedia notes the coast and boating; the commune itself adds tourism, shops, trades and heritage.
What I do for tradespeople and shops in Plomeur
The commune
A rural commune page has two audiences, and they do not look in the same place.
Residents look for a professional near home, often by trade. Visitors look for what goes on around here, from a phone, on the move. A site that speaks to both without confusing them does its job. One that aims at only one lets the other go.
What I put in place:
- a presentation of the business, its products and its services, readable on a phone screen in full sun
- hours and contact details that are exact, changeable in minutes without a provider
- the trust signals brought forward: years in business, labels, reviews, past work
- a contact form reachable at any hour, without publishing a personal number

What happens when an existing site is taken over
Taking over
Many of the commune’s sites already exist, built several years ago and never updated since. Taking one over therefore starts with a full review of the site, before a single line is changed by anyone.
For maintenance, that review happens on the live site: installed plugins, measured performance, verified security. A technical upgrade follows, with vulnerabilities fixed, then the settings are checked one by one, and the data migrates to a managed hosting plan.
The other possible outcome is stated at the same moment. When the theme is too damaged, or the plugins are no longer maintained by their authors, starting from a clean base costs less than repairing. Both options are priced before the decision, and the decision stays yours.
The maintenance plan, in plain terms
The plan
The plan starts at €39 excl. VAT per month, for one site, with a minimum commitment of six months.
What it includes: eco-friendly hosting with Hosterra, 3 GB of storage and a domain name up to €15 per year; daily WordPress, theme and plugin updates, checked before they are applied; daily backups kept for up to 50 days; continuous monitoring of uptime and errors; a monthly maintenance report; fifteen minutes of support per month, excluding site editing.
That point is observed rather than announced. I write the tools I maintain sites with myself: Updatronix keeps the log of every update and can postpone one while feedback comes in, and ZenPress makes the site lighter and closes the features it does not use. Both are published on the official WordPress repository.
What is not included is written down too. Site editing is billed at the hourly rate of €60 excl. VAT: fixing text, adding products, replacing photographs. New features are quoted separately. And if its author has walked away from a plugin, I do not take it on.

What an online shop changes
Selling online
In a coastal commune, an online shop does one precise thing: it extends the season. A holiday let taking a deposit online, a shop selling an item after the visitor has gone, a tradesperson offering a gift voucher. Sales no longer stop in September.
The shop offer starts at €69 excl. VAT per month, with a 24-month commitment, no setup fee and no commission on sales. Card payment is set up through Stripe on your own account, the full buying journey is built and tested, and legal compliance is included: legal notice, privacy policy, terms of sale, delivery and returns. These are generic templates, to be adapted to your business.
Not everything needs a shop, and it is better to say so. A tradesperson who takes orders by phone, a shop with no distance selling: in those cases, a brochure site kept up to date is enough, and costs less.
Working with a studio remotely
Working remotely
I am based in Loctudy, a few minutes from Plomeur. No office to visit, no travelling: meetings happen by phone or by video call, and the work is done remotely. I work across the whole Pays Bigouden, from Loctudy to Penmarc’h, through Le Guilvinec, Pont-l’Abbé and Tréguennec, the neighbouring commune.
What does not change is the person you talk to. I work alone, and there is no support desk between you and me. On a small business project, that removes the most frequent question of all: knowing who to turn to when something stops working.
The trade-off is stated too: nobody will come and fix a breakdown on site, or rescue a computer on a Friday evening before a busy weekend. Everything goes through remote access, backups and monitoring, which are part of the plan.

The two do different jobs. The listing gets you found near home; the site explains what you do, shows past work and brings in precise requests. For a tradesperson, the listing alone often leaves the client without an answer.
That is decided after the review of the site, never before. If the theme and the plugins hold up, an upgrade is enough. If they are no longer maintained, rebuilding costs less, and both options are priced before you decide.
No. A shop becomes useful when part of the activity can be sold at a distance or out of season: gift vouchers, takeaway products, bookings. Otherwise, a brochure site kept up to date does the job and costs less.
No. I work from Loctudy, and I receive nobody there. Meetings happen by phone or by video call, and all the work is done remotely, backups and monitoring included.

Very helpful plugin
In the default view, the Update Log displays a very clear list of recent update activities. If desired, you can view a great deal of detail about each individual activity.
I also find the auto-updates view very well-designed. It’s much clearer than the standard plugin list, and you can configure updates quickly and easily.
I don’t use the Schedule feature at the moment, but I think it could be very useful for some admins.
I have all email notifications activated so I’m always up to date without having to visit each website explicitly.
