WordPress developer in Treffiagat: the other bank of the port

Treffiagat has around 2,400 residents and brings two villages together, Treffiagat and Léchiagat. WordPress maintenance and hosting start at €39 excl. VAT per month, and a WooCommerce online shop at €69 excl. VAT per month. Treffiagat had around 2,400 residents at the last census, across those two villages. The work is done remotely.

The port of Le Guilvinec has more than one bank. Léchiagat occupies the left of the estuary, facing Le Guilvinec: two communes, one body of water, and businesses that work together without always knowing it. Then there is Treffiagat, the village, a few minutes behind.

Treffiagat had around 2,400 residents at the last census, in Finistère. Le Guilvinec faces Léchiagat, Penmarc’h lies just to the west, and the three communes share the same water. Crossing the sources says what keeps the commune alive: fishing and the fish market, seasonal tourism, the coast and swimming.

What I do for tradespeople in Treffiagat

The two villages

A commune that brings two villages together asks a question the others do not: where is the business? In Léchiagat, it faces the water. In Treffiagat, it is more mixed. A site that named only one of the two would cut itself off from half its clients.

What the studio puts in place for a business here:

  • a presentation that names both villages and places the business precisely, so nobody wonders whether they have to cross over
  • hours and contact details that are exact, correctable in minutes from a phone
  • a careful mobile display, because a large share of visits happens from the quay or from the road
  • a form that can be reached at any hour, without publishing a personal number on an open page

The rest comes down to the trade. Businesses in the fishing sector start early, often before offices open, and the day leaves no room for a meeting. A professional site does one simple service: it answers while its owner is at sea. The two neighbouring communes have their own page, Loctudy and Pont-l’Abbé, and the area I cover page lists the whole territory.

What happens when an existing site is taken over

Taking over

Many of the commune’s sites are asleep. Built a few years ago, never updated since, they still show opening hours that no longer apply. Taking one over therefore starts with a full review, before a line is changed.

For maintenance, that review happens on the live site: installed plugins, measured performance, verified security. A technical upgrade follows: vulnerabilities fixed, what is useless cleared out, and the data then migrates to a managed hosting plan.

The other outcome is stated at the same moment, and without detour. If the theme is too damaged, or the plugins are no longer maintained by their authors, rebuilding costs less than repairing. Both options are priced before the decision.

The maintenance plan, in plain terms

The plan

The plan starts at €39 excl. VAT per month, for one site, with a minimum commitment of six months.

What it includes: eco-friendly hosting with Hosterra, 3 GB of storage and a domain name up to €15 per year; daily WordPress, theme and plugin updates, checked before they are applied; daily backups kept for up to 50 days; continuous monitoring of uptime and errors; a monthly maintenance report; fifteen minutes of support per month, excluding site editing.

The measurement shows it, words are not enough. I write the tools I maintain sites with myself. Updatronix, published on the official WordPress repository, keeps the log of every update and can postpone one while feedback comes in. ZenPress, published on the same repository, makes the site lighter and closes the features it does not use.

What is not included is written down too. Site editing is billed at the hourly rate of €60 excl. VAT: fixing text, adding products, replacing photographs. New features are quoted separately. And when a plugin is no longer maintained by its author, I do not take it on.

The maintenance and hosting page details the offer, its options and what it leaves out.

An online shop to sell differently

Selling online

A fishing business does not need a shop as a matter of principle. The case where one changes something is narrower: selling part of the catch direct, offering boxes or gift vouchers, taking payment for a trip or a service. Then it is no longer about selling online, but about selling more.

The shop offer starts at €69 excl. VAT per month, with a 24-month commitment, no setup fee and no commission on sales. Card payment is set up through Stripe on your own account, the full buying journey is built and tested, and legal compliance is included: legal notice, privacy policy, terms of sale, delivery and returns. These are generic templates, to be adapted to your business.

One limit deserves stating. Selling fish or fresh produce at a distance assumes a cold chain, deadlines held and its own regulations: I build the shop and its general compliance, I do not take on the logistics, and I say so before the quote rather than after.

Working with a studio remotely

Working remotely

I am based in Loctudy, a few minutes from Treffiagat. No office to visit, no work on site: meetings happen by phone or by video call, and the work is done remotely. For a business whose day starts before offices open, that arrangement has a simple reason: exchanges happen when you are available, not when a slot frees up.

The trade-off is stated too. Nobody will come and fix a breakdown on site. Everything goes through remote access, backups and site monitoring, which are exactly what the plan puts in place.

A measured quality approach, not an installed theme

Quality

Delivering without checking leaves the work half done. The studio’s services rest on two measurable references: the certification Opquast niveau expert, with a score of 958 out of 1000 obtained in 2024, covering site quality and accessibility, and the ISTQB software tester certification obtained in 2022.

So the site is tested before it goes live: forms, mobile display, speed, link consistency, readability. I work with WordPress, WooCommerce, GeneratePress and Gutenberg, and publish my own open source plugins: WordPress plugins.

A quote, or a meeting

The first exchange is there to find out what the site should do, which side of the port your business is on, and what already exists. It commits you to nothing.

ask for a quote to describe your project in a few lines.

I am based in the Pays Bigouden, in Loctudy, and I work with businesses from the area. What a site has to do for a small fishing business is easy to state: make the activity readable for someone who does not know the trade, publish accurate practical information, and make it possible to be reached without publishing a personal number.

Yes, and it is often the right answer. The two villages form one commune, so a page that names both and places the business precisely is enough. If the activities are clearly distinct, two separate sections on the same page beat two sites.

No. Exchanges happen by phone or by video call, early or late, and the work on the site carries on while you are at sea. Decisions are taken in writing, with an answer when you are available.

That is what the plan covers. Uptime is monitored continuously, backups run daily and are kept for 50 days, and a restore is set up without you having to intervene from a quay.

    Very helpful plugin

In the default view, the Update Log displays a very clear list of recent update activities. If desired, you can view a great deal of detail about each individual activity.

I also find the auto-updates view very well-designed. It’s much clearer than the standard plugin list, and you can configure updates quickly and easily.

I don’t use the Schedule feature at the moment, but I think it could be very useful for some admins.

I have all email notifications activated so I’m always up to date without having to visit each website explicitly.

Quentin, keep up the good work!

PS: A little feature request: when a plugin receives a major release, I’d like to skip the major release and automatically install the next minor release first. I don’t know if that’s possible, but it would be very helpful for some plugins.
