WordPress developer in Tréguennec: a website for an outdoor economy

Tréguennec has around 300 residents and sits on the Baie d’Audierne, in Finistère. WordPress maintenance and hosting start at €39 excl. VAT per month, and a WooCommerce online shop at €69 excl. VAT per month. Tréguennec had around 300 residents at the last census, the smallest commune in the area.

Tréguennec sits on the Baie d’Audierne, in Finistère, and the commune says as much itself: it describes itself as a natural area, where calm and quiet rule. It highlights Kermabec beach, the walking trails and the municipal campsite. Of the whole Pays Bigouden, it is the most precise description a commune gives of its own appeal.

Three hundred and eleven residents. And an economy built to receive people, between the campsite, the holiday lets, the walking paths and the beach.

WordPress website designs for outdoor businesses and hosts

What I do for hosts and outdoor businesses

The outdoors

An outdoor business is often decided in July, on a phone, from a car. The site therefore has to answer three questions, in that order: is it open, what does it cost, and how do I book.

What I put in place:

  • a home page that answers them straight away
  • a careful mobile display, tested on a connection that is merely average, because this is how a camper finds you
  • prices published, with what they cover and what they leave out
  • and a form or an online booking you can still answer from the campsite, not from a desk

The rest is a question of season. What is prepared in April is checked in August, and the site has to hold through the peak without anyone watching it. Neighbouring communes have their own page, WordPress developer in Loctudy and WordPress developer in Pont-l’Abbé, and the area I cover page lists the whole territory.

What happens when an existing site is taken over

Taking over

Many outdoor businesses have a dated site. It was often built cheaply, it says the essentials, and nobody has touched it since. Taking it over always starts with a full review, without changing anything at first.

For maintenance, that review happens on the live site: installed plugins, measured performance, verified security, one by one. A technical upgrade follows: vulnerabilities fixed, unused code removed, settings checked. The data is then migrated to a managed hosting plan, and the site runs on a clean base again.

And if the theme or the plugins are no longer maintained by their authors, starting from a clean base costs less than repairing: both options are priced before any decision.

The maintenance plan, in plain terms

The plan

The plan starts at €39 excl. VAT per month, for one site, with a minimum commitment of six months.

What it covers is eco-friendly hosting with Hosterra, 3 GB of storage and a domain name up to €15 per year, plus everything that keeps a site alive between two visits. Updates run daily on WordPress, the theme and the plugins, and each one is checked before it lands. Backups are taken every day and kept for 50 days. Uptime and errors are watched continuously. You get a monthly maintenance report, and fifteen minutes of support, excluding site editing.

One thing is verified rather than announced. I write the tools I maintain sites with myself: Updatronix keeps the log of every update and can postpone one while feedback comes in, and ZenPress makes the site lighter. Both are published on the official WordPress repository.

What is not included is written down too, and it has to be said plainly. Site editing is billed at the hourly rate of €60 excl. VAT, whether that means fixing a line of text, adding a product, or swapping a photograph. New features are quoted separately. A plugin whose author has walked away stays where it is.

The maintenance page details the offer and its limits.

What an online shop changes

Selling online

In an outdoor commune, a shop does one thing a brochure site cannot: it takes money while you are somewhere else. A campsite collecting a deposit for a stay, a host selling a gift voucher, a business taking online bookings. The request is handled without you.

The shop offer starts at €69 excl. VAT per month, with a 24-month commitment, no setup fee and no commission on sales. Card payment is set up through Stripe on your own account, the full buying journey is built and tested, and legal compliance is included: legal notice, privacy policy, terms of sale, delivery and returns. These are generic templates, to be adapted to your business.

One reservation, and it cuts both ways: if your stays already book very well over the phone, a shop adds nothing, and I say so rather than sell it.

Working with a studio remotely

Working remotely

I am based in Loctudy, a few minutes from Tréguennec. No office to visit, no travelling: meetings happen by phone or by video call. I work across the whole Pays Bigouden, from Loctudy to Penmarc’h, through Le Guilvinec, Pont-l’Abbé, Plonéour-Lanvern and Saint-Jean-Trolimon, the neighbouring commune.

For an outdoor business, that arrangement counts: the project is prepared out of season and followed during it. The trade-off is stated too: nobody will come and fix a breakdown on site. Remote access, backups and monitoring cover the rest.

A measured quality approach, not an installed theme

Quality

Delivering without checking leaves the work half done. The studio’s services rest on two measurable references: the certification Opquast niveau expert, with a score of 958 out of 1000 obtained in 2024, covering site quality and accessibility, and the ISTQB software tester certification obtained in 2022.

So the site is tested before it goes live: forms, mobile display, speed, link consistency, readability. I work with WordPress, WooCommerce, GeneratePress and Gutenberg, and publish my own open source plugins, Updatronix for updates and ZenPress for making the site lighter. Projects now online are shown on the studio’s own site.

A quote, or a meeting

The first exchange is there to find out what your site needs. It happens by phone or by video call, and commits you to nothing.

ask for a quote to describe your project in a few lines.

The two do different jobs. The listing gets you found when someone searches “campsite” or “hiking” nearby. The site explains, publishes prices and takes a booking. In a commune where the name alone tells a visitor nothing while they plan their stay, the site carries the weight.

That is what the plan puts in place: technical preparation before the season, then daily updates, backups and continuous monitoring. There is nothing for you to launch or to watch.

No. My address is in Loctudy, and it is not a place where clients are received. Meetings happen by phone or by video call, and all the work is done remotely, backups and monitoring included.

    Very helpful plugin

In the default view, the Update Log displays a very clear list of recent update activities. If desired, you can view a great deal of detail about each individual activity.

I also find the auto-updates view very well-designed. It’s much clearer than the standard plugin list, and you can configure updates quickly and easily.

I don’t use the Schedule feature at the moment, but I think it could be very useful for some admins.

I have all email notifications activated so I’m always up to date without having to visit each website explicitly.

Quentin, keep up the good work!

PS: A little feature request: when a plugin receives a major release, I’d like to skip the major release and automatically install the next minor release first. I don’t know if that’s possible, but it would be very helpful for some plugins.
